We created the music for this mini-documentary/commercial. The challenge was to craft something friendly and commercial while maintaining a sound that genuinely represented the people featured in the piece and its emotional moments.
Zapotillo is a town influenced by both the coast and the highlands. We based the music on the basic rhythm of the albazo, blending it with coastal percussion and the accordion, which comes from montubio music. The result was a warm, nearly 4-minute piece that is emotional and successfully merges the commercial with the artistic.
Is it possible to create music using tools from a bicycle workshop? Yes — that’s exactly what we did in this project.
This TV project took us all the way to the workshop of the bicycle maker, where we recorded dozens of sounds to find the ones that worked best musically. These became the percussive foundation of the composition. On top of that, the piece was crafted to blend the sounds of hard work (the tools) with a father's love for his son. And we made it happen.
Babies “singing” Beethoven’s Ode to Joy (also known as his Ninth Symphony) — that was the concept behind this piece.
Of course, babies don’t sing — they cry. So we traveled to the hospital where the commercial was filmed and captured hundreds of baby cries. We then categorized and analyzed them to discover the most common pitches, allowing us to build a musical scale that could interpret the melody. Once we had that, performing it was simple — because we already had a perfectly "tuned instrument"!
The brilliance of our client and Creative Director, Israel Barahona, brought us this project: telling book stories through very popular music genres, making them accessible to the majority of the population — especially those who don’t usually read — to inspire them to do so.
So we created The Harry Potter Bachata, The Romeo and Juliet Salsa, and The Don Quixote Cumbia (technically, a technocumbia).
All the pieces won Gold at the Cóndor de Oro Festival, Magic received the Award for Excellence in Production, and the agency — thanks to this campaign — was awarded the Grand Cóndor.
